Gear Consulting

backpacking
Are you ready to lighten up your pack weight, but not sure where to start? Want to go out for a bikepacking trip but can’t fit your old sleep system into your seat bag? It can be hard to steer yourself away from a pack like Cheryl Strayed’s “Beast”, but with some help you can learn to travel light. Hire Sage to help you whittle down the ounces in a way that suits your needs and fits your backcountry style. Through a series of emailed gear lists and a couple of phone conversations, you will be well on your way to a less burdened way of travel.

Summer gear shakedown package pricing:

Basic shakedown: You already have most of your gear, but want some help with selecting a few lighter weight items. You might be considering purchasing a new higher priced item, like a sleeping bag or shelter, and need some help figuring out what kind would be best in your pack. Maybe you are having a problem deciding on a good layering system, have trouble whittling down your toiletry or cook kit, or just need an outside perspective on your overall load. This package includes a initial phone call/email consultation, a video or face to face meeting, and a follow up call/email. $60 for Basic Shakedown, additional help & costs will be clearly decided on as we work together. Contact Sage, mention Basic Shakedown

New to the Trail Shakeup: Are you new to backpacking, or has it been years since you hit the trail? Maybe you look at the old dust covered gear in the garage don’t want to touch it with a 10ft pole? Are you tired of carrying a crushing load & want to start over again? Perhaps you want to bring your kid out into the wilds with you, but don’t want to crush them or yourself with giant packs? The Shakeup package will help you select & learn to use gear that suits your hiking style & expedition goals. We will work together to get you on the trail with the tools you need for a successful adventure (by tools I mean skills & gear- because gear is nothing if you don’t know what to do with it!).  This package includes an initial phone call/email consultation & questioner, 2-3 video or face to face meetings, and a followup call/email. $120 for The Shakeup  Contact Sage to sign up today!

Route Consulting

topo map
Do you have a new route you would like to see walked into reality? Sage is very familiar with the western US and would be excited to hear about any route ideas and plans you or your organization might have. In the summer of 2011 Sage created her own 1,200 mile route across California and fell in love with the route creation process, from making maps to walking into uncharted terrain. In 2013 she hiked the Oregon Desert Trail, a route conceived by Oregon Natural Desert Association that highlights potential wilderness in eastern Oregon. Sage worked with ONDA to generate media attention for the route, and also provided valuable feedback to fine tune the ODT for other travelers. Sage can help collect data on everything from water sources and trail junctions to wildlife observations and town guide material. Her adventures can be made accessible those who can’t get out into the field for months on end, inspiring curiosity and engagment. Sage can send in regular blog content from the field, and can take footage & photos from the trail for promotion projects. She is easy to work with, and enthusiastic about most adventure ideas, float yours by her today!
